This morning, I wake up and make a cup of coffee. I don’t have cable TV anymore so I find one of my favorite Starcraft II players who is currently broadcasting his games. It’s still a little early so I turn on my 360 and play a couple games of COD. I then get a call from my mom and find out my Grandma has passed. At first I was in disbelief and then reality set in. It’s truly a devastating day. She took care of me for a great part of my early life. She’s one of the people who helped shaped me into the person I am today. If you are reading this coming from Facebook, that’s the reason why I uploaded the following photos. They are the only ones I have of my Grandma and my uncle while they were still with us. I can’t say much more since I really can’t think of anything. I’m not all here at the moment and I’m just keeping busy by packing. Until I write again. Take care. Like always, it means a lot that you’ve taken the time to read this and it’s truly an honor to have you a part of my life.

So I’m reading on this site about a 17 yeard old that has been diagnosed with three months left to live. He’s doing a question and answer with the community and is asked:

What last message would you have to your family/loved ones/friends?

He replies:

i know i’m just a dumb kid, but live life to the fullest. dont take life for granted. hug your parents, friends, pets, strangers. just love.

Someone then replies:

i wrote this about my mom that recently died of cancer.

please forgive the shitty grammar and syntax, but i havent have the courage to edit…

please know that you’ll never be forgotten and your love will carry on

some people wonder what the meaning of life is

at 28 im not egotistical to think i know the final answer to that question

but let me at least attempt.

my mother fought cancer for 2 years, and then 6 years, different battles with the same terrible disease, the final battle took her life far too soon.

as we arrived by her bedside 5 days before her passing, our entire family, my older brother, his wife, my mother’s new, at the time 5 month granddaughter, myself and my wife of 3 weeks, and close family friend that lost his own mother to cancer in ’97.

we experienced the meaning of life.

by this point in her illness my mother was in need of a significant amount of pain medication to stay comfortable, and that in combination of the breast cancer that spread to her bones, releasing an inordinate amount of calcium to her blood stream, left her drifting in and out of lucidity.

in those moments, i found the meaning of life.

love.

as strong as my mother had ever been, and as caring for others she always was, none of these traits were present.

as she laid in her hospital bed, receiving palliative care, my father (her husband of 34 years) held her hand as if they were on their first date; caring, admiring, and apprehensive.

the doctors reminded us “talk, she can hear you”.

so we did. emotions ran high, we shared stories about the wedding, we joked about past family vacations and holidays. this lasted a few hours, no response from mom other than a few grunts of pain (maybe acknowledgement, as the docs would lead you to believe).

then the love came. my brother, his wife, daughter, myself, my wife, and our friend were beyond exhausted from our 8 hour drive to NY. we began to say our goodnights to mom.

as i said “mom, i love you, we will always love you”, she opened an eye and said “love, that’s what matters”

love.

i never communicated with my mother again in this lifetime.

her pain took over, and she didn’t deserve that, so we made sure her pain medicine helped her get through her last days, thus sacrificing any sort of connection with the person that connected us all to love.

and in my mind, thats it.

love.

find it, hold it close, never let it be overtaken.

I found this browsing around.

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life – like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?”

The six-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

This is how I got the name for this place. I can watch this movie even on my worst days and it’ll relax and make me smile.

Knowing that it inspires so many people around the globe, through models and photos like this, makes me have faith in humanity sometime.

No matter how the person next to you looks, you’ll never know who they really are until you say “hello.” Or you’ll just be judging another book by it’s cover.
